In a Nutshell
Here is the plan, the evidence and the FIX for politics:
Anyone who spends 10 minutes to search out and read the text of Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution CANNOT mistake where the real power lies in the federal government. In the system the Founders designed for us, CONGRESS NOT THE PRESIDENT IS THE REAL POWER. Congress makes all laws, raises and designs all taxes, funds or refuses to fund all and any actions of government, and their decision to fund anything that government does, or not, is final. No part of the government may self-fund. Congress declares war, not the President; and Congress can undeclare it or terminate it or limit it’s scope at will by declaration. The President has no say in the matter. He is the Commander in Chief ONLY of our operational military , not of the entire country, and he commands operational military forces only within the sphere allowed to him by Congress and the Constitution.
With respect to the rest of the government, the President merely PRESIDES, i.e. he is a figurehead with some but not much influence over the process of day to day governance; and he labors even then under the Constitutional mandate to “Take care that [all laws passed by Congress are complied with]”. He does not get to pick and choose or partially comply.
With respect to the public, the President has of course a good deal of persuasive power–what Teddy Roosevelt once described as the “Bully Pulpit”. And our modern timid Congresses generally fear this power of persuasion; but Congress through its leaders could no doubt match or exceed the President at public persuasiveness if they chose to do so.
All modern Congresses have been bought and kept, however, by various corporate, foreign and financial entities; and so they choose to represent those entities rather than us. They refuse to exercise OUR power on OUR behalf, choosing instead to encourage the President to act in support of these other entities, while Congress pretends to be involved and pretends sometimes to object.
THEREFORE…..
I don’t care who is elected president.
The only way forward is the recapture of Congress BY US in the upcoming 2008 elections. We ordinary, decent, able, American citizens must recruit and support a few hundred of us who will then run for every seat in Congress, en masse as Independents—all of us coming AT Congress in the 2008 Congressional elections from outside the traditional party structures.
Individual races here and there for a few seats in Congress will not and cannot succeed alone. The deck is very thoroughly stacked against such efforts, and the people are discouraged and untrustful. The only way to move them is for a lot of us TO RUN AT THE SYTEM together WITH THE CLEARLY STATED INTENTION OF TAKING EVERY SEAT, and restoring the People to power in America—–removing from power those monied, foreign and corporate entities that today rule this country and too much of the modern world.
I am utterly convinced that the great swath of “ordinary Americans” will rise to this and will even run with us if we do this and we are absolutely clear with them about our intentions: TO REMOVE MONEY FROM POLITICAL POWER.
Money is money. I don’t hate money or those who have money. But people and NOT MONEY must control our politics. There is almost NO TIME LEFT to do this. The matter is now urgent.
Cindy Sheehan is already in the field in SanFrancisco (vs Nancy Pelosi). Cynthia Mckinney is mulling a run in Georgia or nationally. Craig Hill has announced in Vermont. Who is next? Who will join us? Help us? Help recruit others including ordinary people (with perhaps a few celebrities mixed in) to help jumpstart this effort?
